Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu (built 1860)
Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is the oldest landmark in Mae Hong Son province. It stands atop Kong Mu hill and can be seen from anywhere in town. Formerly named "Wat Plai Doi", the temple has two Burmese-style chedi, the larger of which was built in 1860, and contains the relics of Phra Moggalana, one of the disciples of the Buddha. The smaller chedi was erected in 1874 by the first governor of Mae Hong Son, Phraya Singhanat Raja.
According to GPS readings taken on site, the wat is at 19 17.99460' N, 97 57.59700' E (WGS 84 map datum).
