At Gwanbong, the southern peak of Palgongsan mountain, sits Gatbawi Buddha, the Buddha of Medicine. Carved sometime in the 9th century, the statue has become one of Daegu's chief tourist attractions. To be sure, it is perhaps the hardest to reach. The path to the summit rises over 800 meters and takes nearly an hour to climb. Many small hermitages lie in the valleys below.
Note: "Gatbawi" means "hat rock".
