Moranbong hill is a scenic park located west of the Taedong river. It derives its name from the peony flower (Moran) which it is said to resemble. The park has a number of historic pavilions dating from the Choson dynasty. Among them are Ulmil Pavilion, Choesung Pavilion, Chilsong Gate, Chongnyu Pavilion, and Pubyok Pavilion. The park is also famous for the Moran and Chongnyu waterfalls that cascade down into the Taedong river.
The North Korean regime has restored the pavilions and turned the entire area into a "workers' park". At the base of the park is Kim Il Sung (May Day) Stadium and the Kaeson Youth Park.
