The Grand People's Study House stands on Namsan Hill at the heart of Pyongyang. It was opened on April 1st, 1982. It was built in only one year and nine months. It stands opposite the Tower of the Juche Idea across the Taedong River and is adjacent to Kim Il-sung square. The total floorspace is 100,000 square meters and can hold over 30 million volumes. It can accommodate over 12,000 visitors a day.
The interior is divided into over 600 rooms for reading, lectures, recording, information, and consulting. A unique feature is a remote-controlled delivery device that sends books to readers from the general catalogue room.
