Front elevation of the Daibutsu-den (Great Buddha Hall), the largest wooden structure in
the world (c. 165' high, 187' long, 164' wide). It is a temple of the Kegon sect. The original
was completed in 752. Fire destroyed it twice, and this was rebuilt in 1692, at 2/3s of its
former size.
