Yeoh Kongsi Clan Temple (built 1836 onward)

The Yeoh Kongsi clan association dates to 1836, when Hokkien-speaking members of the Yeoh family emmigrated from China and settled in Penang. At the same time, another group of Yeoh from the same village continued on to Rangoon, Myanmar, where they established a clan temple and association with the same name. The two clan groups remain closely connected.

The Penang Yeoh Kongsi used to sit on the waterfront along with a jetty under the control of the clan, but now the area is somewhat recessed from the shoreline. As of 2005, the caretaker of the temple--who has worked there for thirty years--kindly allows visitors to tour the building and take photos.
