Loon Gnee Hing Lodge (built early 20th century)
This Hainanese Mariners' lodge was built by a group of Hainanese mariners in pre-World War II days. Loon Gnee Hing literally translates as the "Lodge of the Artisans of the Wheel". This house was originally rented as a premises of the lodge, but in 1960 a group of 49 Hainanese sailors pooled their resources to buy it. After most of the sailors moved away in the 1980s and 90s, it was handed over to the Penang Heritage Trust, which currently maintains the structure.
