Cheah Kongsi Clan Temple (founded 1820)
The Cheah Kongsi clan association was founded in 1820 by Cheah Yam, an immigrant who originally hailed from Sek Tong village in South China. Upon his death, his widow Ong Sin Neoh took charge of the association and created the legal mechanisms and trust funds to ensure that the association would continue into perpetuity. Her son, Cheah Choo Yew, and his succeeding descendants have served as the presidents of the clan association ever since.
The Cheah clan temple is an eclectic mix of a Chinese mansion, Chinese temple, and European bungalow. The present temple building dates from the 1870s. The premises also include a similarly eclectic office building and surrounding rentable properties.

I just viewed a post from Mike Hidley who wants to contact someone from the Cheah family. My email is rahaleslittletheatre@gmail.com and would greatly appreciate any information about my family tree. Thank you.
I had posted a request for anyone who could tell me how to trace my family tree. My paternal Grandfather's name was Cheah Tuck Shin and he was among the immigrants from China to Penang. My Father, Cheah Saik Haing and his siblings were born in Penang and moved to Burma pre-second-world war. If anyone can give me information of my family tree I would be most grateful to get an email. Thank you.

Dear Cheah family,
I am perhaps the 6th generation Cheah in Penang, Malaysia based on the ancestral tablets that we worshipped in our house when I was young. After the death of my father in 1974, all the ancestral tablets were sent to the Penang Buddhist Association. The ancestral tablets can still be found in the Association as we were there in 2000 to update my father's tablet with my mum (who passed away in 2000).
I am trying to get in touch with you Rachael aunty..
I posted a comment on Monday 31st May 2010 enquiring if anyone could help me trace my family tree from my paternal grandfather - Cheah Tuck Shin who was among the first migrants from mainland China to Penang therefore among the Cheah Kongsi Clan. If there is anyone who has any information, please email me at my address. Thank you
My Grandfather Cheah Tuck Shin was among the first to go to Penang Malaysia from mainland China and my father and his siblings were all born in Penang. My Grandmother's name was Guat Si and we were told that she was the daughter of a sultan. My father's Chinese name was Cheah Saik Haing. the family later emigrated to Burma and after the 2nd World War my Father came to India. I am very keen to trace my family history. Is it possible to find out anything from my Grandfather's name? Thank you, Rachael MacBean
