Cathedral of the Assumption (built 19th century onward)

The Cathedral of the Assumption, on Farquhar Street, was built in 1860 and renovated in 1928. Its name derives from the Feast of the Assumption--the day in 1786 that Portgugese eurasians from Kedah reached Penang. The building had been a church until 1955, when the Vatican decreed that it become a cathedral.

The cemetery you are referring to is the Western Road (Malay: Jalan Utama) Christian Cemetery. You may be able to get more info from the church or cemetery offices.

I am trying to paste together some information about my grandfather who was married at the Catherdral around the early 1900s. His Name was George Walter Freeman. I believe he was buried at a Catholic cemetery along a major road leading to the botanical gardens in Penang. Can someone help me?
