Acheen St. Mosque (built 1808)

The Acheen St. Mosque was built in 1808 by a wealthy Arab trader named Syed Sheriff Tengku Syed Hussain Aidid who came from Acheh in Sumatera. The mosque's most interesting feature is its unusual Egyptian-style minaret, which features a hole about halfway up caused by a cannonball fired during the 1867 triad riots, in which Chinese secret societies vied for power in nine days of bloody street fighting.

This mosque is also called Masjid Melayu.

Location

The approximate location of the mosque is 5.414429' N, 100.336164' E (WGS 84 map datum).
