Entrance to the temple.  At left is the Niomon gate (Benevolent Kings Gate), that enshrines the four Deva guardian kings found at the entrance of most Mahayana Buddhist temples.  This gate is also called the Aka-mon (Red Gate).  At right is the Sai-mon (West Gate). (photo: 1987)
