The anbang, on the opposite side of the house. The tiny door at center-left opens to the kitchen, allowing whoever is cooking to pass items into the anbang--or, allowing the wife to oversee kitchen operations from the comfort of this room. The door at left opens to the attic that runs over the kitchen space.
