Yi Hyangjeong House - 이향정 (二香亭) (built 1695 onward)
This house was constructed around 1695 for Yi Beomjung, the county headman of Onyang. It was named Yi Hyangjeong after his pen name. The house sits on a hillside in the southern part of Yangdong village.
The house comprises an L-shaped anchae (inner quarters), a long sarangchae (outer quarters), and a minor building arranged in a square with a courtyard at the center. The diagonal placement of the sarangchae across from the anchae with the courtyard in between is stylistically similar to upper-class residences of Seoul and the middle regions of Korea.
The layout of the anchae is typical of the major houses of this village. The sarangchae is quite interesting, in that it has a study complete with a kitchen and veranda behind the main room. It also has a spacious veranda around the room across from the hall, which is decorated with patterned railings like that of a pavilion. The whole estate is surrounded by a low, circular wall.
