Biwon (secret garden) (built 1623 onward)
Biwon is a six-acre private garden in Changdeok palace, filled with woodland paths, lotus ponds, and pleasure pavilions. It was first landscaped in 1623 and served for centuries as a royal retreat. An interesting feature is the lotus pond surrounded by pavilions, one of which is cantilevered over the edge with two pillars in the water. The unusual 20-sided pavilion is unique in Korea.

several years ago my wife and self visited the Secret Garden and met an Americal lady who introduced herself as a one time royalty with her Korean husband. We were invited into to a section of the Palace that had workers doing garmet manufacturing and later she gave us a book which we leant, but was never returned. Anyone give us more information that we have forgotten?
