Seogye Seowon - 서계서원 (西溪書院) (built 1606, destroyed 1868, rebuilt 1921)
Seogye Seowon is a private Confucian academy established in 1606 to commemorate Oh Geon (1521-74), whose pen name was Deokgye. The school was given the name "Seogye" in 1677 by King Sukjong of the Joseon dynasty. It was intentionally destroyed in 1868 in accordance with a general edict restricting the number of seowons in the country. However, it was rebuilt in 1921 to enshrine the memorial tablets of Oh Geon and several disciples: Oh Jang, Oh Gan, and Bak Mun-yeong.
