Wigye Seowon - 위계서원 (葦溪書院) (built 1844 onward)

Wigye Seowon was established in 1844 to memorialize the loyalty and unfinished wirk of Yi In-hyeong, Yi Eui-hyeong, Yi Ryeong, Yi Hyeon, Yi Heo, and Yi Eung-seoung, who all belonged to the Haman Yi family. Among them, Yi In-hyeong was especially noteworthy as he died during the Muosahwa (Massacre of Scholars) during the reign of King Yeonsangun.

In its heyday, the academy likely served as the focus of the Haman Yi family's attempt to preserve its school of learning. In an attempt to curtail the stifling influence of private academies, which had come to exert great influence over local affairs, the Daewongun ordered a number of local academies closed in 1868. Wigye Seowon was shut down, but was refurbished and restored in 1963.
