Incheon Hyanggyo - 인천향교 (仁川鄕校) (mid 15th-century onward)

This state-sponsored Confucian academy, or Hyanggyo, is said to have been erected in the mid-15th century. But the existing major structures seem to have been built in the late Joseon period (1392-1910). During several renovations in 20th century, gates and some other parts were heavily repaired. The Daeseongjeon shrine, dedicated to Confucius and 20 other Chinese sages, is a double-wing-like bracket structure with a gabled roof, featuring double-layer rafters with a tilted eave. The building is typical of the wing-like bracket structures of the late Joseon period. On the right and left behind Daeseongjeon are the Seomu and Dongmu where noted Korean Confucian scholars are enshrined. Behind Naesammun Gate are located the Myeongnyundang lecture hall and Dongjae and Seojae dormitories.
