Bukjijangsa Temple - 북지장사 (北地藏寺) (built 1623 onward)
Bukjijangsa is a small temple with a long history. It was founded in 465 by the monk Geukdal-hwasang in the Old Silla era. Some foundation stones still survive from the original construction. The main hall was rebuilt in the mid Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) in 1623. Originally it housed an image of the Amida (Pure land) Buddha, but after a fire, the image was replaced with the Sakyamuni (historical) Buddha. The clustered bracketing is typical of mid-Joseon architecture. It is so heavy that corner posts have been added to hold up the roof.
