Cheongdo Seokbinggo - 석빙고 (石氷庫) (1713)

Cheongdo Seokbinggo is an ice-storage shelter built in 1713 on the orders of King Sukjong. It is one of only six ice-storage shelters remaining in Korea from the pre-modern era. This one comprises a single large stone room, sunk into the earth, roofed with arches made of stone. Most likely, the stone arches were used to support a wooden roof.

There is a drainage area in the middle of the sloping floor so that melting water may flow out. Currently, it is possible to step down into the room using a set of stone stairs found at one end of the chamber.

(Designated Treasure #323).
