Jotabdong Pagoda - 조탑동 오층전탑 (造塔洞 五層塼塔) (built c. 7th-10th centuries)
This pagoda was erected during the Unified Silla period. It stands 8.65 meters tall, though the finial is missing. The width of the earthen base is 7 meters. It is unusual in that it is made of two materials--the lower portion is made of granite while the upper section is composed of brick. A niche on the south side exhibits bas-reliefs of Vajradhara (guardian gods) on either side. The pagoda has been repaired numerous times over the centuries (most recently in 1917) so the original appearance is likely far different than what remains today.
(Designated Treasure #57).
