Yoshijima House - 吉島家住宅 (built 1907)
The Yoshijima family house was the home of a prosperous merchant engaged in money lending and the production of sake. It was constructed in 1907 under the direction of master carpenter Nishida Isaburo, an expert in traditional home design.
The floorplan of the house is quite similar to Kusakabe house, which is right next door. A major difference is that the house also functioned as a brewery, with plastered storehouses at the rear of the site where sake was stored prior to being sold. Unfortunately, most of these support structures have been torn down, with just the main house remaining.
