Mausoleum of Avicenna (built 1953)
The Mausoleum of Avicenna was buit in 1953 by the Iranian Monuments Society on the occasion of the philosopher's millenial birth anniversary. It was intentionally built to resemble the Gunbad-i-Qabus tomb tower in northern Iran (built in 1006), though with an empty, open interior made possible by modern building materials.
