This house is comprised of an inner quarters in the shape of "U", an inner gate building with a "--" shape, and an outer quarters shaped like an "L".  Together, these buildings form a shape similar to the Chinese character for "sun"--an auspicious arrangement.  This layout is common in central South Korea.

It is unusual that there is a special room behind the main room in the inner quarters (at the top-left of the "U").  This kind of room is found only in the central and southern parts of Korea, and is thought to have been used to hold sacrificial rites to ancestors.
