Wansheng Rice Shop (built c. 1910)
The Wansheng rice shop was established around 1910 by two wealthy businessmen surnamed Shen and Fan. The business was successful and grew into a major rice distribution center in Luzhi township with over 100 warehouses for storing rice. The shop was memorialized by the author Ye Shengtao, who wrote a text called 'Three or Five Dou More' (a dou is a unit of measure) which was based on the Wansheng rice shop. Ye's text later became a staple work of textbooks used by middle-aged students throughout China. Ye had taught at the 5th High School in Luzhi from 1917-22, and was a noted figure in the May Fourth movement.
