Red Snail Temple (unknown age)
Red Snail temple is about ten miles northwest of Huairou in a mountainous region near the Great Wall. It consists of a few small pagodas connected to each other by narrow mountain pathways and enormous staircases. If you're physically fit it's definitely worth the visit. A renovation was underway at the time of our visit in 1998. Workers were busy building pathways, drainage systems, and replanting forests.
