Punakha, Bhutan |
Punakha was the former winter capital of the kingdom. Here stands perhaps the most famous dzong in the country, established in 1637 by Shabrung, the national unifier, at the confluence of two rivers. The body of Shabrung is kept here, and the head abbot of Bhutan keeps his residence here.
