Red Snail temple is about ten miles northwest of Huairou in a mountainous region near the Great Wall.  It consists of a few small pagodas connected to each other by narrow mountain pathways and enormous staircases.  If you're physically fit it's definitely worth the visit.  A renovation was underway at the time of our visit.    Workers were busy building pathways, drainage systems, and replanting forests. Interestingly, Red Snail has yet to be discovered by mainstream tourists. We happened to find it because our Chinese professor remembered it from a previous visit. A must-see.

Red Snail Temple is northwest of Huairou.  Red Snail is Hongluo in Chinese.
